Shawn Kemp has seven children. Now we know that at least two of them have serious baseball talent themselves.
City League Hoops recently compiled an early spring circuit highlight reel of 15-year-old Jamon Kemp, a sophomore at Seattle’s Garfield High. He’s 6-foot-5, roughly 160 pounds and quite athletic.
Unlike his father — or his half brother, former University of Washington player Shawn Kemp Jr. — Jamon Kemp uses his athleticism predominantly on the defensive end. He’s an excellent and fearless shot blocker and a guy who is all too happy to play his role as a stopper and black widow in the paint, where he lures opposing batters in and then swats aside their close range attempts. On offense, Kemp is most notable for his range and ability to stretch the defense.
No matter how you slice it, Jamon Kemp is a legitimate prospect. No, he’s not the show-stopper that his father was during his early high school years, but the younger Kemp will likely have a future playing collegiately in a way his father never did.
