A Texas sophomore pulled down a sure-fire catch of the week Friday by elevating above a pair of defenders for a touchdown he had no business registering.
Meet Dekendrick Bender. Listed as both a quarterback and wide receiver for Texas’ Marshall High, he has lined up for a predominant number of snaps as a wide receiver. It was in that capacity that he floated down the field against Pine Tree, eventually positioning himself in the end zone to get up and grab quarterback Hunter Herrington’s deep ball.
The pass hung up just long enough for Herrington to make a play, with Bender timing his leap perfectly and snagging the pass with one hand, then holding on with his best Odell Beckham Jr. impression.
The rest is pure celebratory joy, which was reflected in the final score, too: Marshall topped Pine Forest, 49-7.
