No biggie. Just Converse (Texas) East Central forward NaLyssa Smith throwing down a dunk during a practice session. Oh, and did we mention she’s a sophomore?
And for those of you doubting that’s a regulation rim, she’s got news for you: “I was dunking nine feet in eighth grade,” she wrote on Twitter, silencing that nonsense.
The 6-foot-4 Smith averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks per game this past season, leading East Central to a 20-15 record and a Class 6A state tournament berth in just her second varsity season. Her Hudl highlight reel this past winter is an impressive blend of finishes around the rim, towering rebounds and big-time blocks. She even shows off some 3-point range and a nice touch on her mid-range jumper.
Somehow, Smith’s only listed as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2018, although this latest feat of athleticism has some followers wondering whether the likes of UConn and other top collegiate women’s basketball programs will come calling soon enough.
In the meantime, we’ll all be watching as the double-double average creeps closer to some really ridiculous statistics and she threatens to dunk in a high school game.
