Call it the Monmouth corollary: Sometimes the only thing better than a great basketball player is the bench-ridden teammate of that player who is even better at celebrating the big moments.
Just as the Monmouth Hawks’ best basketball season in recent memory was often overshadowed by the antics of the team’s bench, young Christian Halcomb stole the spotlight from Hamilton’s true stars by compiling a senior season highlight reel … which features just one made basket. By comparison, Halcomb’s highlight reel features a series of highlights of the teen celebrating on the Hamilton bench, in various states of reverie. When he does make it on to the floor, Halcomb seemingly alternates between a horrendous missed free throw attempt and an air ball from deep, all with a relatively pitiful turnover in the front court to boot.
Sure, there’s the lone deep ball that finds its way through the net, but given the rest of the video evidence documenting Halcomb’s game, it’s hard not to feel the made shot is a very rare exception.
All of that reinforces Halcomb’s sense of humor, and how sometimes the best highlights aren’t true highlights at all.
