There are very few human beings on the planet who can score a solo goal like Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. One is Lionel Messi. Apparently another is Martin Samuelsen.

Wait, who?

If you haven’t heard of Samuelson before, don’t worry, you’re not alone. The 18-year-old is a Norwegian who is a member of the West Ham youth set up. He’s currently playing on loan for Peterborough in England’s third division, known as League One. And on Saturday, during a league matchup against Sheffield United, he scored one of the goals of the season in England.

Gathering the ball on the far left wing about 30 yards out, Samuelson cut inside, used a deft step-over to elude a first defender, jinked past a second to get a line toward the goal, then scooped around the final line of United’s defense before unleashing a perfectly placed shot across the front of the Sheffield United goal. It was a top drawer, slaloming goal of the highest order, and it deservedly put him under the national microscope.

If nothing else, it might be enough to speed up Samuelson’s path into West Ham’s first team. The Hammers are having a fine season, but there haven’t been many goals like that in the Premier League this season … by anyone, let alone anyone from West Ham’s roster.
