Rejoice! We’ve officially reached the start of youth baseball season! How do we know? Because we’ve already been served our first epic trick play of the 2016 season.
The team you see in the video above is Joe’s, a 12-and-under (12U) squad from Hamilton, Ohio. In this case, the star of the show was Joe’s pitcher Conner Frank, who fakes an opposing base runner up the river with an epic faux-pickoff-overthrow move, as artfully coordinated with his second baseman, outfielder and third baseman.
Seriously, it’s difficult to execute a hidden ball play more perfectly than that. Frank didn’t even have to engage in a prolonged rundown to complete the out. It played out exactly as diagrammed, with a tag out by the third baseman.
Here’s hoping this is just the first of many clever trick plays to come this spring, and the first of many more in Frank’s career, however long is lasts.
