A little pinball anyone?
That probably wasn’t the plan when Duchesne quarterback Braden Johnson was planning either when he let a pass fly downfield. Two midair deflections and a nifty catch on the run later, tight end Jaren Mortensen was off and loose into the open field for a critical touchdown in the Eagles’ 26-12 victory against North Summit in the second game of the season.
Mortensen obviously deserves the lion’s share of credit for the unlikely touchdown, though he can offer up an assist to a fellow receiver (second deflection) and an opponent (first). Not that any such considerations matter.
Six points are six points, and they’re even more satisfying sometimes when they’re as unlikely as they were for Mortensen and company against North Summit.
