Jay Huff is a rare breed: A North Carolina teenager who chooses to play for Virginia rather than any of the state’s own powerful college basketball programs. Despite an almost gangly 6-foot-11, 190-pound frame that is still in need of more muscle, he also has a remarkable amount of upper body strength. Case in point: The video you see above, which set back the Voyager Academy practice plans by a few days.
Sending himself an alley-oop, Huff elevated backwards and caught his self-assisting bounce pass in stride, flushing home an impressive reverse dunk and tearing away the rim in the process.
As glass from the backboard cam cascading down, Huff — who previously became the first player to record a triple-double at the High School OT tournament in nine years — skipped backwards to get out of the line of damage.
Luckily for Huff and his teammates, Voyager isn’t scheduled to host a home game until Jan. 26, when East Wake Academy will come to town. By then there should be a new backboard installed, and a new chance for Huff to earn more admirers ahead of his collegiate career. Count us among those who will be tuned in.
