Jay Urich is a dual-threat quarterback prospect from Wren High in Piedmont, S.C. In an effort to keep pushing up the prospect rankings, Urich has been working out with quarterback guru Ramon Robinson, who has trained some of the best in the state of South Carolina. And one drill in particular has caught the eye.
In the video you see above, Whitfield — who is based near Urich’s hometown in Anderson, S.C. — simulates an aggressive pass rush by hurling large exercise balls at Urich and forcing him to dodge each of them before delivering a pass downfield. The drill is one of the more clever approximations of the kind of aggressive pass rush that can sink any quarterback, young or old.
Urich passed this test, and may need to do more of the same en route to whichever collegiate destination he eventually chooses (Kentucky is currently considered the favorite for his services, for what it’s worth).
