Keegan Paterson didn’t just make sure that he came through in the clutch during Wheatland’s 51-48 victory against California foe Sutter, he also provided a degree of cool that is pretty well unheard of for a game-winning buzzer beater.
That’s Paterson above, getting the ball on an inbounds pass with fewer than five seconds remaining, taking one power dribble as he pivoted toward the hoop, one monster step forward and then launching a deep trey. Not only did Paterson’s shot soar through the net without so much as a kiss of the rim, he also left his picture perfect follow through hanging in midair like a Reggie Miller throwback tribute.
The made bucket proved the difference in the Pirates’ 51-48 victory, and the difference in Paterson’s long-time legacy at Wheatland High. From here out, he’ll always be the long distance winner who shot was as pretty as its result.
