Let’s just go ahead and call this play the Austin Trace from now on.
After all, the Canal Winchester (Ohio) junior right-handed pitcher by the same name made this remarkable barehanded catch in a game against Bishop Watterson.
Pretty cool, indeed. Unfortunately, Canal Winchester suffered its first defeat of the season in the outing, 2-1, but things could’ve been worse, and when all is said and done this season, the memory of this play will outlast that of the loss.
Besides, Trace tossed a five-hitting no-hitter against Bexley in his previous outing, so a no-no and the barehanded grab of the year isn’t such a bad start.
