The boys and girls basketball seasons are winding down and the wrestling season is hitting its final stages.
The following Lansing State Journal prep athlete of the week candidates were among the top performers from last week in mid-Michigan. Voting is open until noon Wednesday. (Refresh browser if poll doesn’t immediately appear). The winner will be featured in the print edition of the LSJ.
COLTON ANTES, FULTON: The senior helped the Pirates to their eighth win in 10 games on Friday by scoring 28 points and adding eight rebounds in a 65-44 CMAC victory over Dansville on Friday. Antes is the leading scorer for Fulton, which is 11-5 and 10-3 in the CMAC.
TARYN MCCUTCHEON, EAST LANSING GIRLS BASKETBALL: The Michigan State signee averaged 21.0 points and 9.5 rebounds for the Trojans, who clinched at least a share of the CAAC Blue title with victories over Grand Ledge and Holt. She had 27 points and 10 rebounds in a 69-39 victory over Grand Ledge on Tuesday and followed with 15 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds and five steals in a 71-53 win over Holt.
IAN PARKER, ST. JOHNS WRESTLING: The Iowa State-bound wrestler helped the Redwings capture a team regional title and also was an individual regional champion last week. Parker won by fall while helping St. Johns to a 32-30 win over Eaton Rapids in the regional final Wednesday at Mason High School. He followed by picking up three wins by major decision while winning an individual regional title at 140 pounds.
JAYLYNN WILLIAMS, IONIA: The junior averaged 25.5 points while helping the Bulldogs to wins over Belding and Ionia. She scored 30 in the 60-53 victory over Belding. Williams followed with 21 points in the 49-42 win over Lansing Catholic. Williams is Ionia’s leading scorer this season.
