It’s time to vote for The News-Press high school athlete of the week. Voting will close at noon on Thursday.
Nominees are derived from scores and stats called and emailed in by Lee County’s coaches during the week. Voting begins each Monday at 2 p.m.
Coaches can email scores to email@example.com or call in scores at (239)335-0357. The deadline for each night’s results is 10 p.m.

Shomari Mason, Ida Baker, sophomore
The running back had 203 yards on 30 carries and a touchdown and took back a kickoff return 70 yards for another score to lead the Bulldogs past rival Island Coast 45-42.
Zaquandre White, North Fort Myers, senior
The senior Florida State (running back) commit intercepted two passes to lead a Red Knights’ secondary in a 40-13 victory over Cape Coral on Friday.
Kelsey Sullivan, Bishop Verot, senior
The veteran had a strong defensive performance with 15 digs to help the Vikings past perennial power Berkeley Prep in a Region 5A-3 semifinal.
Andrew Mills, Evangelical Christian, senior
Mills home two individual events at the District A-9 championship at the FGCU Aquatics Center to qualify for the Region A-3 championships on Friday. The junior won the 100 butterfly in 53.33 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 55.99.
Alina Faunce, Estero, senior
The Alabama commit broke two school records in the 200 IM (2:003.6) and the 100 butterfly (55.75), while also anchoring Wildcat wins in the 200 medley and 400 free relays.
Boys Cross Country
Trevor McDaniel, Dunbar, senior
The Tigers senior placed 11th overall at the Region 2A-3 cross championships at Holloway Park in Lakeland with a time of 17:36, pacing Dunbar to its first ever Class 2A appearance on Saturday in Tallahassee.
Girls Cross Country
Kristin Gear, Fort Myers, senior
The senior won her second straight Region 3A-3 championship with a time of 19:16, picking off North Fort Myers’ Kayla Easterly in the final 200 meters.
Nolan Jerriey, Bishop Verot, senior
He closed his Class A golf performance by finishing 10th by shooting a two-day total of 9-over 153, which included an opening round of par 72 golf on Friday at Mission Inn and Resort golf course at Howey-in-the-Hills.
Brittany Shin, Canterbury, sophomore
She finished her Class A outing with a two-day total of 7-over 151 to finish in 16th in the girls event.
Noah Hamilton, Cape Coral
Bowled a 738 series to take top honors in LCAC competition at Bowland on Tuesday. The sophomore led the Seahawks to a District 6 runner-up spot, and will compete at the state tournament next week in Orlando.
MiKayla Simer, Island Coast
Bowled a 527 series to take top honors in LCAC competition at Bowland on Tuesday. The senior helped the Gators to another District 6 championship, capping all four years at Island Coast with a district title. Island Coast competes at the state tournament in Orlando next week.
