Saturday was a big day for the Jones family in Arlington, Texas.

John Stephen Jones, the son of Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones and grandson of owner Jerry Jones, led Highland Park to a 16-7 victory against Temple for the state 5A Division I title at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Cowboys.

John Stephen was named the game’s offensive most valuable player after scoring on a 36-yard run in the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7 and then reaching the end zone on a 1-yard run on a fourth down in the final two minutes of the third quarter. The second TD provided the winning points.

Here is how dad and granddad saw the go-ahead TD via the FoxSports Southwest broadcast.

The title was the first for Highland Park since 2005, when its quarterback was Matthew Stafford.

John Stephen isn’t the biggest. He isn’t the fastest. He isn’t the strongest. He will run hard, and he will do exactly what it takes to win a football game. He won’t impress anyone stepping off the bus, but he will leave an impact after the game is over.

He has that moxie, that other stuff we talk about when talking about good quarterbacks. And now he’s a state champion.

Only a junior, he’ll lead Highland Park’s title defense campaign in 2016.
