SOUTH OLDHAM (1-0) AT DOSS (1-0)
* Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
* Storyline: Doss can prove it’s worthy of top-10 spot in 5-A.
* South Oldham: The Dragons opened their season with a 31-14 victory over Anderson County as freshman Keaton Martin rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Sophomore Payden George (five carries, 70 yards, one TD) and junior Brandon Elsbury (seven carries, 51 yards, one TD) also had big games on the ground. South Oldham beat Doss 44-8 last year.
* Doss: Junior quarterback Terez Traynor rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another as the Dragons rolled to a 40-0 victory over Jeffersontown. Doss got a pair of scores from its defense, as sophomore Shawn’Kel Knight-Goff returned a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown and sophomore Philip Lewis recovered a fumble in the J’town end zone. “Our defense was ridiculous,” coach Phillip Hawkins said.
* Quotable: “Since I’ve been at Doss, we’ve never had a statement win,” Hawkins said. “We were either too young or not disciplined enough. We want to turn our program around, and the way you turn it around is to get a win in a game like Friday. We’re obviously playing a great program. To be a great program, you have to beat a great program.”
* The pick: Doss 28-21.
