FISHERSVILLE – Wilson Memorial’s girls’ basketball team quickly recovered from its first loss of the season to Alleghany on Thursday, downing county-rival Riverheads 66-45 Friday night in a Shenandoah District basketball game.
“We hit our shots both inside and out,” said Wilson coach Jackie Bryan. “We started out slowly, only being up 15-12 in the first quarter. By halftime, we were up by nine. Lexi (Deffenbaugh) hit three threes in the second quarter, and she gave us the momentum going into the second half.”
For the game, Deffenbaugh paced the Green Hornets with 21 points and ended with five of the team’s nine 3-pointers. Sarah Sondrol added 12 and Jordan Sondrol 11.
For Riverheads, Cassidey Chrisman led the way with 12 points, while Morgan Bond bucketed 11.
Wilson (11-1) is part of a varsity home doubleheader with East Rockingham on Monday, with the girls playing the second game.
Riverheads (6-4) hosts Stonewall Jackson on Monday.
