FISHERSVILLE – Preston Elkins overcame a rough start to post a complete game and his Wilson Memorial teammates backed him up, rallying from a five-run deficit to post an 8-5 victory Friday over Buffalo Gap in baseball action.
The Green Hornets (2-2) found themselves down 5-0 after two innings, as the Bison (2-3) put up four in the first and one in the second. But Elkins pulled it together and retired 10 straight batters after the second inning and went the distance for the victory. He struck out six.
Wilson battled back to tie it and Wayne Pettry, who went 3-3 on the day, broke the 5-5 tie with a two-run triple. The Hornets added an insurance run in the sixth.
Lucas Wheeler and Wyatt Lotts led Gap, getting two hits apiece.
Wilson is back in action at Luray on Tuesday, while the Bison travel to Greenville on Tuesday to take on Riverheads.
