After three years at the helm of the Franklin boys basketball team, coach Jamie Wilson is stepping down.

“It’s just time for me to step away and hand the reins off to someone else to lead Franklin basketball,” Wilson said.

“I don’t have a job lined up at this point in time. I don’t have any prospects of going anywhere necessarily at this point in time. The plan is to stay at Franklin High School and teach, unless that opportunity arises.”

Wilson compiled a 40-48 record with the Rebels, finishing 14-22 in District 11-AAA.

He led Franklin to the Region 6-AAA semifinals in all three seasons, losing to Hunters Lane his first year before falling Hillsboro the past two seasons.

He said he discussed the decision to leave with his wife and cited the long season as one reason for wanting to take a break.

“We just felt like it’s the best decision for our family moving forward,” he said. “I just don’t have that fire. I’ve sacrificed a lot, my wife has sacrificed a lot to allow me to coach, and it’s time that I put my focuses elsewhere.”

Franklin athletic director Jay Johnson was unavailable for comment Thursday.
