Fort Myers swimmer Clay Riemenschneider earned nearly 30 percent of the vote to garner The News-Press Athlete of the Week honors for Oct. 31-Nov. 5.
Nominees are derived from scores and stats called and emailed in by Lee County’s coaches during the week. Voting begins each Monday at 2 p.m.

Riemenschneider, a Florida State signee, finished his swimming career with the Green Wave by taking fifth in the 200-yard (1:41.37) and 500 freestyle (4:32.42) at the Class 3A state championships last week in Stuart.
Dunbar junior defensive end Bakari Jackson took second with 20 percent of the vote after forcing a fumble in the fourth quarter of the team’s come-from-behind win over Fort Myers, putting the finishing touches on an 8-win regular season for the Tigers.
Bishop Verot volleyball player Mindie Mabry, a Harvard commit, took third with 11 percent of the vote. Mabry allied 38 kills over two games, including 27 in a four-set win over West Palm Beach Oxbridge Academy on Nov.3 to clinch a regional championship. She finished her career as a Viking on Saturday in the Class 5A semifinals, logging 11 kills against Miami Westminster Christian.
Other nominees were North Fort Myers quarterback Ben Pogue, Estero swimmer Alina Faunce, Estero cross country runner Arye Beck, North Fort Myers cross country runner Kayla Easterly, Island Coast bowler Nicholas Larsen and Island Coast bowler MiKayla Simer.
