Bishop Verot freshman golfer Reece Kyle garnered 53 percent of the vote to earn The News-Press Athlete of the Week honors for Oct. 10-15.
Nominees are derived from scores and stats called and emailed in by Lee County’s coaches during the week. Voting begins each Monday at 2 p.m.

Kyle earned medalist honors at the District A-17 championship at Forest Country Club with a two-over 74. His round was ten shots better than the nearest individual and it led the Vikings to the team championship with a 324.
Fort Myers cross country runner Evan Seech, who received 35 percent of the vote, ran a career best 17:08 to finish third overall at the Lely Trojan Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, placing fourth overall. He was the first Green Wave runner to cross the finish.
The other nominees were Island Coast running back Jerry Cambric, Dunbar cornerback LeMarcus Young, Ida Baker volleyball player Amanda Gross, Canterbury golfer Brittany Shin, Cape Coral swimmer Jonah Martinez, North Fort Myers bowler Nick Nero, Cape Coral bowler Courtney Evans and Fort Myers cross country runner Krissy Gear.
