The McDonogh (Md.) Eagles program remains atop the newest Super 25 girls high rankings this week. The team has now outscored its opponents 45-14 in the first three games of the season and has won 136 consecutive contests, an incredible feat that has brought eyes to the sport.
While the top seven teams keep their placement in this week’s Super 25, a flip occurred at the No. 8 and No. 9 spots as Bishop Ireton (Va.) leapfrogged the Academy of the Holy Cross (Md.) by way of a hard-fought 11-10 decision on March 22.
Some other movement occurred at the bottom of the rankings, as Notre Dame Prep of Maryland’s IAAM ‘A’ Conference upended previous No. 25 St. Mary’s (Md.) 10-7 and jumps in at No. 24. Florida’s Vero Beach, a team that battled McDonogh to a 13-8 loss early in the season and played No. 20 Milton to a 7-5 loss, creeps into the No. 25 spot after defeating previous No. 23-ranked Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) 10-5 on March 23.
With many teams in the Northeast still yet to play the first game of the year, much of the Super 25 rankings remain in tact from last week, other than the few changes in the top ten and near the bottom.
A huge matchup for this week sees two teams ranked in the Super 25 facing off when No. 7 Agnes Irwin (Pa.) visits No. 8 Bishop Ireton (Va.) on March 28.
