In one of the biggest Desert Valley League swim meets of the year, the Xavier Prep girls team emerged victorious over Palm Springs on Monday.
It was the second consecutive DVL regular season title for the Xavier girls, who won the school’s first swim title with an unbeaten season in 2015. The Xavier boys also won a swim title a year ago.
The Saints beat the the Indians 125-45. The Indians won on the boys’ side, 86-84.
Results from Monday’s meet were not immediately reported. However, Monday’s showing further solidified the program’s standing as a swimming powerhouse in the valley and beyond.
Rancho Mirage 13, Twentynine Palms 4: Ismael Cuevas won three sets in singles, Daniel Whelan and Luis Velazquez won two sets apiece and Arturo Morales added another as the Rattlers battled 30 mph winds in a victory on Monday.
Doubles teams of Marco Giron and Javier Campos and Ivan Hernandez and Carter Victorio picked up two wins, and Alex Arias and Juan Felix added another.
College of the Desert won the PAC Conference with a record of 49-2, and Coach Manzoni was named the league’s Coach of the Year for 2016. COD’s Michael Starbuck was named Player of the Year and medalist for the event on Monday with rounds of 71 and 68. Ryan Emery shot a 71 and a 77, Mike Schaloum had a 70 and a 78.
The Roadrunners travel to Bear Creek for the state regional on May 9.
Desert Christian Academy 241, Desert Chapel 288: The Conquerors were led by Wyatt Snellenberger, who shot a 9-hole round of 43, followed by Harrison Yu with a 45, Nash Johnson with a 46 and Bella Klein with a 62.
Aaron Corey shot a round of 42, Garrett Pena shot a 47 and Shaun Shi had a personal best round of 62 as the Eagles fell short with windy conditions Monday against the Conquerors.
