While many high school football players in Southwest Florida are currently working toward obtaining college scholarships this offseason, North Fort Myers junior Zaquandre White may have just received his golden ticket.
The 6-foot, 203-pound running back and Florida State University commit measured off the charts at The Nike + Football Opening Regional in Miami on March 6 and earned an invitation to the coveted sixth annual The Opening Finals at Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon in July.
A gathering of the nation’s top high school football talent, The Opening is an event that tests elite recruits in linemen, 7-on-7 and SPARQ testing competitions. It also includes The Elite 11 competition that brings together some of the nation’s best high school quarterbacks.
White, a four-star recruit according to 247 Sports, moved up the ratings board after his performance and is now tagged as the No. 1 back in the state for the Class of 2017 and ranked 81st nationally across all positions according to 247 Sports. The Florida State University commit still continues to hold a strong promise to the Seminoles, though he’s admitted that Florida and Auburn are hot on his trail.
