USA TODAY High School Sports is proud to announce the 2018 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Illinois Football Team. Players were selected based on their athletic achievements from the 2018-19 season.

COACH OF THE YEAR: John Holecek, Loyola Academy (Wilmette)

After starting off the year a pedestrian 3-3, Holecek’s Ramblers rattled off eight straight victories on their way to claiming the Class 8A state title. The former Illinois star and NFL linebacker guided Loyola to a 13-3 win over previously unbeaten Brother Rice in the state title game.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Payton Thorne, Naperville Central

Thorne was a thorn in opponents’ collective sides all fall, throwing for 3,079 yards and 40 touchdowns while running for 440 yards and four TDs, leading the Redhawks to the Class 8A second round. The senior quarterback is headed to Western Michigan next year.

The Northwestern commit had 71 tackles, 10 sacks and 26 quarterback hurries as the leader of a stout defense. A two-way player, Jansey also ran for 330 yards and four touchdowns in Batavia’s run to a 12-1 record and the Class 7A state semifinal.
