Olive Branch (Miss.) High School forward D.J. Jeffries ended his recruitment Saturday morning, picking Memphis over Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Alabama.
Jeffries originally committed to Kentucky in March, then days after his pledge, Penny Hardaway, Jeffries’ summer ball coach for Team Penny (Tenn.), was hired as Memphis’ new head coach.
Jeffries decommitted from Kentucky in July.
This summer, Jeffries averaged 11.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game on the Nike EYBL for the Bluff City Legends (Tenn.), formerly known as Team Penny.
He led Olive Branch to the state title last season.
The addition of Jeffries will certainly help the Tigers’ recruitment of Memphis (Tenn.) East High School center James Wiseman, their primary target in the 2019 class.
Wiseman not only teamed up with Jeffries under Hardaway with Team Penny and this past summer with the Legends, Wiseman, who is ranked No. 4 overall in USA Today Sports’ Chosen 25, also played for Hardaway when he coached at East.
Wiseman is currently on an official at Memphis.
Jeffries is the Tigers’ second commitment from the 2019 class, joining East center Malcolm Dandridge.
