8. Carter Stewart, RHP, Eau Gallie HS (Melbourne, Fla.), Atlanta Braves
A Mississippi State signee, Stewart was named to the American Family Insurance ALL-USA First Team after going 6-4 with a 0.91 ERA that included 128 strikeouts and 18 walks in 61.2 innings. A designated hitter as well, the 6-foot-6, 200-pound Stewart hit .313 with seven home runs and 22 RBI.
“It’s kind of surreal. You watch [MLB] games as a kid, especially since it wasn’t that long ago,” Stewart told MLB.com before the draft. “I was just thinking, it would be a dream to play on that field. Now knowing I have a legitimate chance … it’s an incredible feeling.”
MLB.com estimates that the No. 8 pick is worth $4,980,700.
