A former Colorado State football quarterback has been knocked off as the top passer in Colorado high school football history.
Fairview High School’s Aidan Atkinson broke Justin Holland’s record for career passing yards during Thursday night’s game against Rocky Mountain at French Field in Fort Collins.
Atkinson entered Thursday’s game 114 yards shy of the career record, and he broke it late in the first quarter. Atkinson completed his first six passes of the game and had touchdown passes of 22 and 32 yards to Henry Blackburn on Fairview’s first two drives. He ended up throwing for five touchdowns and more than 400 yards in a 41-14 win.
The previous record of 10,565 yards was held by Holland, a former Colorado State quarterback. His number stood for 19 seasons after he set it playing at Bear Creek from 1997-2000.
Atkinson broke Colorado’s career touchdown passing record earlier this season. He also owns records for passing yards in a half (425) and passing touchdowns in a half (eight).
The 6-foot-3, 213-pound Atkinson is verbally committed to Northwestern.
Holland threw for 5,668 yards at CSU from 2002-05 and is eighth on the career passing yards list for the Rams. He threw for 36 touchdown passes at CSU.
