On Wednesday, SLAM and the National Basketball League’s (NBL) Illawarra Hawks announced a partnership for the upcoming season. The deal will see SLAM serve as the team’s primary sponsor on the front of the jersey.
“Today’s announcement marks a major milestone for the Illawarra Hawks ahead of what is to be the most exciting season in the club’s history. This partnership with SLAM provides synergy between two great brands that will see unprecedented international exposure for both the Hawks and SLAM, as well as the NBL and Australian Basketball.”
SLAM’s Chief Operating Officer, Dave Schnur, is also looking forward to the partnership. “We’re always looking for ways to diversify our marketing strategy,” Schnur says, “and this is a great opportunity to uniquely align with a team featuring top American talent in one of SLAM’s most popular markets.”
SLAM, meanwhile, tweeted out a picture of the jerseys in announcing the partnership.
It’s a #SLAMfam thing.

For both parties, this is a partnership that makes sense. The Illawarra Hawks create in-roads with one of the most popular basketball magazines not just in America but globally. For a team that will see a dramatic increase in exposure this season, the Hawks aligning themselves with SLAM is a great decision that should pay huge dividends.
That latter point is a reason why SLAM partnering with Illawarra is a great decision. The Hawks are going to have a tremendous amount of exposure this season with Ball on the roster. The team will gain popularity on a global stage with fans across the world tuning into games. Having SLAM across the chest of the jersey will turn out to be a great marketing decision.
