West Bloomfield 4-star safety Makari Paige committed to Michigan football on Tuesday, after visiting for the program’s annual BBQ in the Big House recruiting event this past weekend.

Paige is the No. 243 overall recruit in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, the No. 22 safety and the No. 6 prospect in Michigan.

Paige, a 6-foot-3, 182-pound prospect, has long been on the recruiting radar. He picked up an offer from the Wolverines on Jan. 18, 2018, before receiving  offers from Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State later that spring. He had whittled down his list to a top seven that included U-M, MSU, Kentucky, Penn State, Ohio State, Purdue and Notre Dame. According to 247Sports, Paige officially visited Ohio State, Penn State and Kentucky in June.

Paige has been an asset for West Bloomfield over the past two seasons. The Lakers reached the 2017 Division 1 state final, and the regional final last season.

He is the 24th commitment in the Wolverines’ 2020 recruiting class and the second prospect to enter the fold after last weekend’s recruiting event, joining Delray (N.J.) safety RJ Moten. Paige is the third safety in the class, along with Moten and Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic 4-star safety Jordan Morant.

Michigan’s class is ranked No. 7 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big Ten behind Ohio State.
