Boys Lacrosse Rankings
Victor, NY 1 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 3. The Blue Devils kicked off the year with a 16-6 victory over Corning (N.Y.) on March 22. In the win, senior attackman Ryan Maloney (Cornell) scored four times as Victor saw production from a collection of players. The Blue Devils have been idle for a couple weeks, focusing on training, as they prepare for their April 7 matchup with Webster Thomas (N.Y.).
Baltimore, MD 8 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 6. The Cardinals took a pair of wins over public schools from different states in the last week. Calvert Hall defeated Conestoga (Pa.) 12-6 on April 1 and then earned a convincing 17-5 win over Fallston (Md.) on April 5. This week will see the Cardinals begin their MIAA ‘A’ Conference slate, beginning with Mount St. Joseph (Md.) on April 12.
Bradenton, FL 7 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 2. The Ascenders suffered their first loss of the season as they were on the receiving end of a late surge by the Hill Academy, as the Pride pulled away with a nine-goal rally late in the contest to defeat IMG by ten goals in the highly anticipated Crossover Clash. IMG picked up wins over Everest Academy (Ont.), 20-16, and also, for the first time, defeated the Army Prep (N.Y.) squad 22-15. The Ascenders make their way to New Jersey to meet Westfield on April 7 and then take on the Naval Academy Prep (Md.) team on April 9.
Deerfield, MA 2 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 9. The Big Green kicked off its 2016 season with a major Super 25 victory, downing New England rival and previous No. 4-ranked Brunswick School (Conn.) 13-10. Four days later Deerfield took the field again and routed Berkshire School (Mass.) 17-4 for an easy victory. The Big Green begins a series of games against Founders League opponents starting with the Westminster School (Conn.) on April 9.
Greenwich, CT 3 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 4. Brunswick suffered its first loss of the season, a 13-10 setback to new No. 5 and New England rival Deerfield Academy (Mass.), on April 2. Rebounding just a few days later, the Bruins downed the Kent School (Conn.) 14-4. Brunswick hosts Loomis Chaffee (Conn.) on April 9 and travels to face the Taft School (Conn.) on April 13 as it gets deeper into a challenging schedule.
Princeton, NJ 2 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 5. The Raiders rolled to easy 17-6 victory over the Blair Academy (N.J.) on April 2, with Griffin Moroney and Devon Cowan each scoring three goals in the win. The Hun School begins a tough stretch of matchups against notable New Jersey programs, starting with Don Bosco Prep on April 7, continuing with Lawrenceville on April 9 and then Princeton Day School on April 11.
Malvern, PA 6 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 7. The Friars earned three quality wins this past week against Mid-Atlantic teams. First, Malvern Prep scrapped to an 8-4 win against St. Augustine Prep (N.J.), then edged Garnet Valley (Pa.) 11-10 and then downed La Salle College High School (Pa.) 15-10. The Friars are on the road to face Salesianum (Del.) on April 12. Later in the week, after meeting West Chester East (Pa.), Malvern Prep witll clash with No. 16 Haverford (Pa.) at home.
New Canaan, CT 2 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 21. New Canaan turned heads with its opening-game victory over No. 10 Loyola Blakefield (Md.), downing the Dons 9-8 in overtime on Jack Hoelzer’s second goal of the game. Just a few days later on April 6, the Rams survived a battle against Fairfield Prep (Conn.), escaping with an 8-7 victory over the in-state rival. This week New Canaan is on the road to face Wilton (Conn.).
Towson, MD 3 - 2 - 0
Result: Previous: 8. The Dons fell in overtime, 9-8, to new No. 9 New Canaan (Conn.) on April 2. After a ten-day break, Loyola Blakefield embarks on its MIAA ‘A’ Conference schedule, starting with St. Mary’s of Annapolis on April 12. This game sees Loyola Blakefield first-year head coach and alumnus Ben Rubeor coaching against the team he led to the MIAA ‘A’ Conference title last season.
Washington, DC 6 - 2 - 0
Result: Previous: 11. The Purple Eagles were solid this week in two wins over D.C. area rivals, downing Georgetown Prep (Md.) 11-6 and then doubling up Paul VI (Va.) 12-6. Gonzaga’s schedule this week includes dates with two current Super 25 squads, both on the road, as the Eagles travel to No. 16 Haverford (Pa.) on April 9 and then to No. 17 Landon (Md.) on April 12.
Potomac, MD 7 - 2 - 0
Result: Previous: 12. The Bulldogs, for the second week in a row, earned a major Super 25 victory. Bullis took down No. 14 Boys’ Latin (Md.) 16-10 on April 1, following that up on April 6 by handily defeating Corner Canyon out of Utah 15-6. Kicking off its IAC schedule, the Bulldogs host Episcopal (Va.) on April 8 and then take on WCAC foe Our Lady of Good Counsel (Md.) on April 11.
Owings Mills, MD 7 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 13. The Eagles earned a 10-3 win over Episcopal Academy (Pa.) on April 1. McDonogh, with just one close loss on its resume, prepares for the MIAA ‘A’ Conference schedule, which starts on April 12 against St. Paul’s. The Eagles own wins over two currently-ranked Super 25 opponents.
Baltimore, MD 5 - 2 - 0
Result: Previous: 10. The Lakers fell on April 1 to No. 12 Bullis (Md.), 16-10, just two days after a big win over No. 11 Gonzaga (D.C.). A good rebound win came in the form of a 14-7 victory over reigning Maryland 3A/2A public state champion Kent Island 14-7.
Culver, IN 6 - 2 - 0
Result: Previous: 14. After being off for a couple weeks, Culver Academy got back on the field April 2 and earned a 10-4 win over Detroit Country Day (Mich.). This weekend the Eagles will have two games against two of the stronger programs out of Michigan, facing University of Detroit Jesuit on April 9 and then powerhouse Brother Rice on April 10.
Haverford, PA 5 - 2 - 0
Result: Previous: 15. The Fords took care of business against St. Joseph’s Prep (Pa.) on March 5, winning 14-10 behind five goals and two assists from Forry Smith. Haverford faces two Super 25 opponents in its next pair of contests: No. 11 Gonzaga (D.C.) on March 9 and No. 8 Malvern Prep (Pa.) on April 12.
Gaithersburg, MD 10 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 17. Landon quietly continues to collect quality wins, most recently defeating Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.) 14-8, downing St. Augustine Prep (N.J.) 16-11 and then outlasting Mount St. Joseph (Md.) 13-8. The Bears will get a test when they travel to face a strong St. Stephen’s-St. Agnes (Va.) team on April 8. A big matchup with No. 11 Gonzaga (D.C.) looms on April 12.
Darien, CT 2 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 19. The Blue Wave began the season with an impressive 12-3 win over a strong Yorktown (N.Y.) team and then rolled over Brien McMahon (Conn.) 23-0 for a shutout victory. Darien will look to continue its hot start in a date with reigning New York State Class A champion Niskayuna on April 9.
Smithtown, NY 4 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 22. The Bulls grabbed two more wins last week, both on the road, downing Walt Whitman (N.Y.) 14-4 and then Northport (N.Y.) 13-6. Smithtown East has a difficult week ahead with back-to-back games at home against Bay Shore (N.Y.) and on the road at Greenwich (Conn.) on April 8 and 9, and then back on the road against West Islip (N.Y.) on April 13.
Massapequa, NY 3 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 23. After a break, the Chiefs earned a 13-10 win on April 5 against Bellevue, currently one of the top programs in the state of Washington. Massapequa this week will face Kellenberg Memorial (N.Y.) and then Port Washington (N.Y.), both games on the road.
Bridgewater, NJ 3 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 24. The Panthers survived a close contest on April 2, edging Ridge (N.J.) 9-8 in overtime. Bridgewater-Raritan responded with a 12-7 win over North Hunterdon (N.J.) on April 6. The 26-game winning streak will be put to the test on April 9 when the Panthers take on a talented Garden City (N.Y.) team that is banging on the door of the Super 25 rankings.
DeWitt, NY 1 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 25. The Red Rams saw some schedule changes due to weather after a season-opening win against Oswego on March 29. Jamesville-DeWitt next takes the field on March 7, when the team is on the road against Fulton (N.Y.).
Cold Spring Harbor
Cold Spring Harbor, NY 4 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: Unranked. Ranked in the Super 25 just a couple weeks ago, the Seahawks return by way of their win over No. 24 Syosset (N.Y.) from March 29, which after another week of results shows more of the pecking order of the teams in this range of the national landscape. The Seahawks are at Island Trees (N.Y.) on April 12.
Syosset, NY 3 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: Unranked. A week after being bumped out, the Braves are bumped back in thanks to proof of the value of Syosset’s season-opening win over Garden City (N.Y.), a team that just beat St. Paul’s (Md.) to spark some shuffling of the rankings. Syosset faces Northport (N.Y.) on April 9.
Danville, CA 12 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: Unranked. The Mustangs, still undefeated and considered among the very best in California, owns a big win over a St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.) team that just traveled east and helped shake up the Super 25 scene, similar to last year. The Mustangs’ record has seen them keep every opponent below ten goals. Monte Vista faces Marin Academy (Calif.) on April 12.
