Result: Previous: 1. The Eagles survived what turned out to be their greatest test of the season, arguably their greatest in recent memory, when they were taken to the brink by Maryland public school Century. The Eagles found themselves staring at an 8-6 deficit at halftime. But thanks to Catie May’s four goals, including the game-tying goal and game winner, McDonogh’s unbelievable winning streak is exctended to 152. The exciting result against Century followed two other quality wins this past week for the Eagles, including handing No. 22 Marriotts Ridge (Md.) its first loss of the season and also a victory over league opponent Bryn Mawr (Md.). McDonogh has earned the top seed in the IAAM ‘A’ Conference playoffs.
St Stephen's-St Agnes
Alexandria, VA 17 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 2. The Saints played just once in the previous week, earning a Super 25 victory over No. 6 Summit (N.J.), 13-10. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes’ game against Holy Child (Md.) is being rescheduled, but the Saints are set to face Episcopal Academy (Pa.) on the road May 7 for what should be a good test.
Olney, MD 18 - 2 - 0
Result: Previous: 3. The Falcons picked up a trio of wins in the previous week, starting off with an 11-9 Super 25 victory over No. 19 Moorestown out of New Jersey. Good Counsel rolled over WCAC opponents Elizabeth Seton (Md.) and Paul VI (Va.), with the win over the Panthers coming in the WCAC semifinals. A major rematch is on deck for May 9, when two of the Mid-Atlantic’s biggest powers will collide as the Falcons will meet No. 10 Bishop Ireton (Va.) for the WCAC championship.
Milton, GA 17 - 2 - 0
Result: Previous: 5. Milton has rolled over its first two opponents in the Georgia state playoffs, taking down Roswell 20-3 on April 29 and then defeating Archer 20-4 on May 3. Savannah Cosman scored four goals and added an assist in the win over Archer. Up next is Northview on May 6.
Bayport, NY 13 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 7. The Phantoms took down West Babylon (N.Y.) 15-11 on May 3 and two days later hit the road to defeat Westhampton Beach (N.Y.) 16-2. Bayport has a load of weapons on offense and has benefitted from depth of scoring. Star midfielder Kerrigan Miller is just one of those key pieces on offense. She has 34 points so far this season. The Phantoms look to stay in the win column against Huntington (N.Y.) on May 7.
Summit, NJ 13 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 6. Summit was dealt its first loss of the season on April 30, falling in a 13-10 game to NOVA powerhouse St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes, currently No. 2 in the Super 25. The Hilltoppers responded according, earning two wins in three days by defeating West Essex (N.J.) 20-5 on the road and meeting Kent Place (N.J.) to take a 17-2 win. Summit hosts Glen Ridge (N.J.) on May 10.
Garden City, NY 12 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 9. The Trojans earned a major Super 25 victory and a key win, edging longtime rival and No. 8 Manhasset (N.Y.) 9-8 in overtime on March 30. Katie Muldoon scored the game-winning goal in the extra period after Michaela Bruno scored late in the game to force the extra frame. Muldoon is Garden City’s leading scorer so far this year with 43 goals and 10 assists. The Trojans take on Long Beach (N.Y.) on May 10.
Manhasset, NY 9 - 1 - 1
Result: Previous: 8. After suffering an overtime loss to rival and No. 7 Garden City (N.Y.) on April 30, the Indians collected themselves and picked up a convincing 14-7 win over North Shore (N.Y.) on May 2 and then went on the road to grind out a 7-5 win over No. 16 Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.). The Indians travel to face Suffern (N.Y.) on May 7.
Darien, CT 10 - 1 - 1
Result: Previous: 10. Darien picked up two one-sided wins in the previous week. The Blue Wave routed Danbury (Conn.) 20-6 on April 28 and then, on the road, rolled over Greenwich (Conn.) 16-6 to stay undefeated in Connecticut. Darien hosts Longmeadow (Mass) on May 6 and then rival New Canaan (Conn.) on May 10.
Alexandria, VA 17 - 3 - 0
Result: Previous: 15. Bishop Ireton had a big bounce-back week after a rough go a week earlier. The Cardinals picked up a great win over No. 11 Roland Park (Md.), taking a 12-8 victory over a team previously in the top 10 of the ranking. Ireton then earned wins over Bishop O’Connell (Va.) and then Holy Cross (Md.) in the WCAC semifinals. The Cardinals meet No. 3 Good Counsel (Md.) on May 9 in the WCAC championship.
Roland Park Country
Baltimore, MD 12 - 3 - 0
Result: Previous: 4. The Reds’ previous week saw them grind out an 8-5 road win over St. Paul’s (Md.) on April 29, but then Roland Park was upended 12-8 at home on April 30 by No. 10 Bishop Ireton (Va.). Finishing up the regular season at 9-2 in the IAAM ‘A’ Conference, the Reds lock up the second seed for the postseason.
Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse)
Syracuse, NY 8 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 11. CBA remains undefeated after a week that saw the Brothers run over two Section III opponents, first downing Marcellus 14-6 on May 2 and then dropping Fulton on the road, 18-4. Christian Brothers hosts Penfield out of the Rochester area on May 7 and then travels locally for a math cup against Skaneateles.
Wantagh, NY 12 - 2 - 0
Result: Previous: 12. The Warriors earned a quality 10-8 win over a talented Suffern (N.Y.) team on April 28, but then were defeated by No. 7 Garden City 13-10 on May 3 in a matchup of two of Long Island’s top squads. Another important matchup is on deck for Wantagh: a May 10 trip to face No. 8 Manhasset (N.Y.).
Ridgewood, NJ 10 - 2 - 0
Result: Previous: 13. The Maroons had little trouble in dishing out defeats in one-sided engagements with Pasack Valley (N.J.) and Northern Highlands (N.J) this week, winning those two games by a combined score of 36-5. Ridgewood will travel to West Morris Central (N.J.) on May 9.
Cold Spring Harbor
Cold Spring Harbor, NY 9 - 4 - 0
Result: Previous: 16. The Seahawks won on the road 9-7 against North Shore (N.Y.) on April 29, but then fell at home on May 4 to Nassau County power and No. 8 Manhasset (N.Y.) 7-5. Cold Spring Harbor looks to close out the regular season with a road win against Oceanside (N.Y.) on May 9.
West Islip, NY 10 - 4 - 0
Result: Previous: 17. West Islip was held to just three goals on April 29 in a 9-3 setback to No. 15 Middle Country (N.Y.). The Lions responded with consecutive wins over Commack (N.Y.) and then Longwood (N.Y.). Up next for West Islip is Patchogue-Medford (N.Y.) on May 7.
Rosemont, PA 13 - 4 - 0
Result: Previous: 22. Agnes Irwin had a productive previous week, picking up three wins, including a 7-6 overtime win over rival Episcopal Academy (Pa.) and later a 12-10 win over No. 19 Moorestown (N.J.) for a Super 25 victory to add to the resume. Agnes Irwin this week will take on Notre Dame Academy (Pa.) and Baldwin School (Pa.).
Moorestown, NJ 10 - 4 - 0
Result: Previous: 14. The Quakers had a strong showing in an 11-9 loss with No. 3 and WCAC powerhouse Good Counsel (Md.) on April 30. But after picking up an 18-6 win over Holy Cross (N.J.) on May 4, Moorestown was edged the following day by No. 18 Agnes Irwin (Pa.) for the team’s fourth loss of the season. The Quakers are at home to face Manasquan (N.J.) on May 7 and then hosts Shawnee (N.J.) on May 11.
Berwyn, PA 14 - 0 - 0
Result: Previous: 23. The Pioneers remain undefeated after picking up two more wins this past week. A big one came against fellow Pennsylvania power Garnet Valley on May 3, a 15-10 decision. Conestoga kept rolling on May 5, taking down Penncrest (Pa.) on the road, 19-4. The Pioneers are at the Baldwin School (Pa.) on May 7 and then at Archbishop Carroll (Pa.) May 9.
Mount Sinai, NY 11 - 3 - 0
Result: Previous: 24. The Mustangs grabbed three wins in the previous week. Mount Sinai downed Hauppauge (N.Y.) 13-4 on April 30, then cruised past Sayville (N.Y.) 12-2 on May 3 and then edged Rocky Point (N.Y.) 8-6 on the road May 5. The Mustangs face a strong Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.) on May 9 at home.
Marriottsville, MD 12 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: 25. The Mustangs suffered their first loss of the year, but it came at the hands of the nation’s most dominant team — the No. 1-ranked McDonogh Eagles. Losing 13-8, Marriotts Ridge showed it can play with the best of the best this year. The Mustangs edged Glenelg (Md.) 9-7 on May 3 to improve to 12-1 on the year. A big matchup looms on May 6, when Marriotts Ridge will travel to Mt. Hebron (Md.).
Camillus, NY 12 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: Unranked. The Wildcats are now rolling in Section III with a 12-1 record, the only loss so far coming to No. 7 Garden City (N.Y.) on April 25. West Genesee earned a 9-5 win on May 5 over a talented Cicero-North Syracuse (N.Y.) squad. The Wildcats are on the road to face Liverpool (N.Y.) on May 10 and then host Baldwinsville (N.Y.) May 12.
Smithtown, NY 10 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: Unranked. The Bulls now sit at 10-1 with their only loss coming to No. 17 West Islip, a 14-5 loss on April 21. Smithtown West took down previous No. 21 Northport (N.Y.) 11-7 on April 29, then edged a tough North Babylon (N.Y.) team 14-12 on May 2. The Bulls travel to Ward Melville (N.Y.) on May 12.
Manchester, MD 13 - 1 - 0
Result: Previous: Unranked. The Mavericks were knocked out of the Super 25 earlier in the year, falling 7-6 in the second game of a double-header by Mt. Hebron. With a four-goal win over Century — a team that just took McDonogh to overtime, but lost — and a clean record since, Manchester Valley finds itself in the Super 25 just in time for the Maryland public school postseason. The Mavericks closed out the year on May 3 with a 21-2 drubbing of Patterson Mill (Md.).
